At Castner Kelner, Runcorn, last Saturday, Wallasey Athletic Club's 'A' team was placed sixth in the West Lancashire Cross-Country Association's Novice Championship after a fast race over a 2 lap course of four and three-quarter miles.
The team race wan won decisively by Sutton Harriers, who finished 4 in the first 10; the teams of Lancaster Primrose A.C. and Liverpool Pembroke C. & A.C. were placed second and third respectively. The individual winner was R. K. Meadows, of Pilkington Recs., who established a commanding lead in the early stages of the race and was never seriously challenged.
Wallasey runners finished in the following positions: - Foster 9th, Dinsdale 17th, Tony Dickinson 20th, Wright 42nd, Hawkesley 54th, Mason 58th, Hewson 61st, Brian Smith 62nd, Bollard 63rd and Scammell 65th. Foster won the medal awarded to the first man home in an unplaced team.
This Saturday, Wallasey Athletic Club go to Northwich for the County Championships, and there has been an alteration in the travelling arrangements the coach will leave Seacombe at 12-30 p.m., and not at 1 p.m. as previously notified.
Jack McCulloch, captain of Wallasey Athletic Club weight lifters, continued on his record-breaking way last month when he broke the Cheshire lightweight record with a clean and jerk of 259 lbs., and made a total of 640 lbs., the highest ever recorded in this county in his class.
