At the Oval, Port Sunlight last Saturday the first local meeting of the track season, the T.A. and R.Aux.A.F., Sports Festival, was held in warm sunlight.
Sgt. Arnold Dinsdale, of 573 (M) H.A.A. Regt. R.A. and Wallasey Athletic Club was third in the members' scratch mile. Last season's West Lancashire novice champion, 16-year-old R. K. Meadows, Pilkington Recs. won the junior handicap open half-mile in 2 mins. 7 secs, off the 60 yard mark.
Capt. Butler, of Liverpool H. and A.C. won the open discus and shot events.
The quarter mile was won by J. A. Pugh, of Wirral A.C. in 48.4 secs., off the 32 yards. Two best race of the afternoon ended in the victory of J. F. Green, of Wirral A.C., in the two mile team race. His lead of 50 yards at the end of the first lap was never reduced by the Manchester A.C. runners, who struggled to approach him. His time for the first mile was 4 mins. 32 secs., and his final time 9 mins. 40 secs.
Wallasey Athletic Club weight lifters have a Lancashire League match versus Crosby, on Friday, June 3rd, at the club's Leasowe Road headquarters, when spectators will be welcome.
