At Stretford last Tuesday three members of Wallasey Athletic Club's ladies' section competed against opposition of a high standard in the 1500 metres.
Wallasey's Janice Watts ran an aggressive race from the early stages and finished fourth, with a time of 4 mins, 35.5 sees., followed by Barbara Banks with 4 mins. 48 secs., and Margaret Ashcroft in 4 mins. 53.5 secs.
Dave Lockley returned a fine time of 8 mins. 34.5 secs, in the senior men's 3,000 metres, only 15 seconds outside his best, and Bob Brimage recorded 9 mins. 8 secs. Mike Teahan, returning 53.0 secs., finished just ahead of Phil Wealthy (53.3 secs.), in the men's 400 metres and later ran 24.3 secs. over 200 metres. Eddie Kanes competed in the boys' 800 metres and gained a time of 2 mins. 23.8 secs.
At Cleckheaton, Yorkshire, the previous Saturday, Phil Truscott finished fifth in his 100 metres heat with a time of 11.9 secs., but, in a competition such as the Northern Championships, this was not enough to secure him a place in the final.
The only fixture the club will have this week-end is an inter-club meeting at Pilkington's Recreational Ground, St. Helens, but members will be preparing themselves for the St. Helens Police meeting next Saturday, at the same venue.
