Wallasey Athletic Club's Pete Lewis was one of the three local athletes who took part last weekend in the National Indoor Championships at R.A.F. Cosford. The meeting attracted many of the big names in British athletics; including Mary Peters, Mike Bull and, Ian Stewart.
Pete Lewis won his way into the final of the 800 metres, coming in an easy third.
Margaret Ashcroft and Barbara Banks took part in the women's 3,000 metres, Barbara moved into second place and finished in a time of 9 mins. 46.4 secs. Margaret finished in fifth position in a time of 10 mins. 13 secs. This Saturday the Northern Championships are taking place, the men's at Blackpool and the women's at Rotherham, where the senior team are defending the championship title which they won last year.
