Wallasey Athletic Club's only athlete in action last weekend was Pete Lewis, who scored a resounding victory in an 800m race at Stretford. His time of 1m 54.3 secs. was 6 secs. ahead of the runner-up. This was a tremendous pre-season performance for Pete, who is now captain of athletics at Birmingham University.
This weekend marks the beginning of the summer season for Wallasey A.C with several members taking part in the Wirral Sports Marathon. Then follows a tough series of track races.
Unfortunately, the club will be without the services of Mike Teahan for the latter half of the season, as he is taking up a post in London.
All-rounder Mike, known throughout the Wirral, will be greatly missed as he has competed in practically every event for the club, ranging from cross-country running to hammer and discuss throwing. He is hoping to continue his athletics for Southend A.C., where he has strong connections at present.
Wallasey now has full use of Woodchurch track on Monday and Wednesday evenings. New members interested should meet at the club house at 6.45 p.m. on these days.
