In preparation for the 26-mile Road Relay Race round Sefton Park that is to be run to-day, Wallasey A.C. confined their training last Saturday to a short three mile sprint from the club house to the top of Leasowe Road and back.
There was only a small turnout for this, the final home meeting of the season, but in view of the weather conditions no more could be expected. The rain poured down throughput the afternoon and water polo would have been a more appropriate recreation than running. However, those who braved the elements after some initial hesitation before taking the plunge, seemed to enjoy themselves immensely. After the first 50 yards, getting wet did not matter for the saturation point had already been reached. And then splashing through all the deepest puddles in a shower of spray if anything added to the pleasure of the run. The only noteworthy feature of the afternoon was the fine performance of N. Marples who held Edwards, the club champion, for the three miles and on the last stretch managed to get ahead to beat him to the finish. This promises well for Wallasey's chance next week. The club will have out a stronger team than when the race was run earlier in the season and they should stand a good chance of a place in the first three.
