Wallasey Athletic Club's Pete Jones achieved three personal best times in a senior men's event in a Northern League Division Two match at Hull.
Many of the club's senior athletes, including Mark Feeny, Lee McGinley (out due to school commitments) and track captain Dave Ashton, (out due to injury.) were unable to compete, so the team were in general young and inexperienced in comparison with the internationals fielded by other clubs.
However, this did not deter the athletes who did compete, sprinter Pete Jones provided himself with three personal best performances in the 100m and 400m. Bill Innes and Roland Murtagh also gained personal bests in the 400m hurdles and 3000m steeplechase respectively, while Lawrence Jones equalled his personal best time.
Wallasey's only victory came in the hammer 'A' competition when county schools champion Chris Preston swept aside all competition to win with a throw of 46.25 metres.
