Wallasey Athletic Club runners Barbara Majinder and Margaret Ashcroft, both became county champions at recent County women's championships over three miles at Arrowe Park and Runcorn.
Barbara, who took the Merseyside title by 600 yards, and Margaret, who won the Cheshire with a similar margin, bring home the two titles for a new club record. It is the first time that the club can boast two county champions.
Sue Lloyd compounded the club's prominent position in women's athletics with a third place in the Merseyside championships.
The boys' team finished in the twenties to give them a fourth place in the boys/youth race.
The track team came away from R.A.F. Cosford well satisfied. Pete Jones first in the 200 metres (25.3), added a second place in the 600 metres in 1 minutes 28.4 seconds.
Chris Preston, resting from hammer throwing, putt the shot 11 metres 71, a personal best and enough to move him to sixth.
The strange combination of 600 metres and high jump proved successful for Bill Jones. He was third in the high jump with six feet one inch and clocked up a creditable sixth in the 600 an unusual event for him.
Another sixth position was recorded in the ladies events by Sue Lloyd in the 600 metres at 1:47.6. Margaret Ashcroft ran the 3,000 metres in 10 mins. 9 secs. to finish second.
The Sunday track meetings at Kirkby are well suited to Wallasey Athletic Club who had several high finishes: Mike Tunstall sped the 1,500 in 4:35 for second. P. Ashby came sixth. T. Bond seventh and Bill Innes fifteenth.
P. Jones was third in the 300 metres in 37.4 seconds and Dave Swindell third in the youths 100 in 11.8.
Wallasey teams in the H.S. Finney Trophy cross-country meeting at West Derby did very well and in the combined boys and youths relay over 1½ miles each leg gained a convincing third place.
Results were Mike Tunstall 7 min 43; Wright 7 mins. 44; P. Ashby 8 mins. 18.
In the senior event for veterans J. Wright finished 11th in 15 mins. 37 secs.; P. Jones 16.03 and Len Durkin 19.47.
