Janet McGee proved, yet again, the mistake made by Merseyside when not selecting her to represent Merseyside in the English Schools.
She ran in the British Catholic Schools Championships on Sunday, and finished 21st - 20 places ahead of the girl selected in her place for the English Schools.
Two other Wallasey Athletic Club girls also ran in the older age group. Barbara Jones, still preparing for the International Catholic Schools, for which she has been chosen to represent England, finished in fourth place whilst Shibohn Power, still showing some improvement, finished 12th.
On Saturday, Wallasey A.C. had two members competing in the AAA's under 20 indoor championships at R.A.F. Cosford.
Ian Macleod, arguably the club's top sprinter, competed in the 60 metres and the 200 metres youths races, whilst Kevin McGee, the clubs' top middle distance runner, competed in the junior 3000 metres.
Ian's performances were quite pleasing for this time of the year, especially for the 60 metres in which he managed to gain selection
into the semi finals.
Kevin McGee finished 6th in his race which was run as a straight final.
Kevin McGee and Rob Heap race for Merseyside next Saturday in Leicester, in the English Schools cross-country championships. They should prove worthy of their selection and help Merseyside to finish well up the medal tables.
Club members and any other interested persons, should note that coaching for hurdles and steeplechase events will be held at Woodchurch track on Sunday mornings, commencing at 11:00 a.m. this week, March 25.
