Reasonable weather last weekend gave some of Wallasey Athletic Club's track and field athletes a chance to test the effectiveness of their winter work.
The occasion was the first full, open track meeting at the Kirkby Stadium.
First to run was Mike Perry, his performance showed that he was emerging from his winter work well, in his first track season of the boys' age group. He managed a third place in the 100m with a very stylish performance.
Another athlete emerging well from a winter build-up, which included competition 'on the boards' at Cosford, is Ian Macleod. He ran in the youths' age group 100 metres, finishing 2nd, and 400m. Finishing 3rd.
Pete Jones, in the senior age group, never seems satisfied with his performances, however good they are. It is probably this attitude which has brought him on so much over the last two seasons. Pete's 400m time when finishing 4th, was 52.9sec. Later he ran again in 4th place during the 800m, with a time of 2min 3.8sec.
Other results by club athletes were not as good as these, but did show, some promise of another season containing many personal best performances.
