Wallasey Athletic Club runner Kevin McGee, aged 18, had the worst of build ups for his international races in Spain, which took place on Monday and Tuesday.
Shortly after competing, in an event in Nottingham, Kevin, of Northcote Road, Wallasey, was attacked by a gang of youths and received cuts to his head.
However, after a few stitches Kevin was on the plane to Spain for the European Catholic Schools Championships. He was hoping to win the 1500m and 3000m events in which he finished fifth and third last year.
