Last Saturday seven athletes from Wallasey A.C. competed in the Merseyside Schools Cross-Country Championships.
The senior and inter girls were run as one race with all four of our girls to the fore. Barbara Jones and Siobahn Power, after forcing much of the early pace finished first and second respectively in the seniors. The inter girls race turned into a very interesting battle with both girls, Janet McGee and Marie Henry running outstanding races to finish fourth and eighth.
Mike Jones, running for the first time in these championships, ran well to finish 49th.
Competing in the senior men's race were two of our athletes, Kevin McGee and James Roberts.
Kevin is an athlete of some standing and had much experience to call on to master bad conditions and finish second, well clear of the third placed runner.
Unfortunately James Roberts, good an athlete though he is, did not have the experience, but still, despite this he fought from start to finish, coming through the finish in 12th.
