On Saturday, March 1, four members of WAC ladies' section represented Merseyside County in the English Schools Cross-Country Championships held Telford.
To reach this competition, the girls have had to do well in the Wirral Schools races, then finish in the first eight in the Merseyside Schools Championships.
The races were run in brilliant sunshine on an undulating course that was extremely muddy and wet.
It was a, test of stamina and in the intermediates race, Janet McGee, in her first year of this age group, ran slightly below her best form to finish in 75th position and 3rd counter for Merseyside.
In the same race, Marie Henry ran well below her best form to finish in 246th place.
In the senior event, Barbara Jones and Siobhan Power ran excellent races to finish in 68th and 76th positions respectively, being first and second counters for Merseyside.
Siobhan is at the lower end of this age group and must be congratulated on this performance.
On the same day, several members of the club travelled to Kirkby for one of the first track meetings of the season. It was used as a gauge for general fitness after the hard winter's training and as such, proved satisfactory,

Minor girls, 800m: J. Jones, 7th. 2-59-4. 80m: S. White. 1st. 12-5: 800 m: S. White, 1st. 2-54-2.
