Having made some criticisms in the past about the organisation of the annual Wirral Marathon, may I hopefully be one of the first to offer my congratulations to Mr. Eddie Griffiths and his team of helpers on the conduct of this year's event?
Despite the adverse weather conditions, this was the most enjoyable of the three races so far. My thanks therefore, to the air cadets and their efficient drinks and timing service, to those spectators who braved the elements to encourage the athletes and to all those officials who waited patiently at the finishing-line.
Above all, thanks to the police for their safe marshalling of the course.
The runners had the least problem of all. Assuming they were fit enough, they were at least able to keep moving and stay warm through the worst of the gale.
