Wallasey Athletic Club's girls took to the pathways of Wavertree playground in Liverpool last Sunday for the annual Merseyside Women's Road Relay Championships.
Joanne Johnson in the under-13 year old girls 3 x 2,000 metres race, took on the tough opposition of first leg, finishing well in 11th place, she handed over to Vicky Duckworth who ran a
slightly slower race than Joanne but managed to take third place, to pass on to Collette Winstanley in eighth place.
Collette, the youngest team member ran the fastest time of the three girls and had a superb run in finishing in seventh place.
In the senior competition, covering two laps of 2,000 metres each, Lynne Kennedy ran first leg in a very good time of 16.15 minutes, running two strong nearly equal paced laps to finish second behind Liverpool Harriers.
Sue Knight, renowned for her marathon running, ran well but found the pace slightly too fast and handed over in fourth place to Lisa O'Hara. Lisa brought the team home to finish fourth out of the 10 teams entered.
Also road running, the men on Saturday fielded 10 men in the Cheshire county road-relays.
The six men who made up the A team showed great strength with a good performance of eighth out of approximately 30 teams with an exceptional run from Dave Pendleton and Ken Pendleton.
