Last Saturday, Wallasey Athletic Club competed in Cheshire Cross-Country Championships, staged at Runcorn.
Performance of the day came from Geoff Nuttall, who made a determined effort to stay with the leaders in the boys' race, and ended up narrowly outside the medals in claiming fourth place.
Nigel Thompson, who like Geoff has been enjoying an outstanding cross-country season, was next home in 13th, while Roy McGregor and Hugh Samuels completed the scoring in 24th and 33rd places respectively.
Wallasey could be a strong contestant for team honours in this age group in later races.
Two Wallasey runners took, part in the youths' race with Andy Pennington finishing 19th and Rob Howarth 48th. Andy's position was two places higher than he had finished in the boys race last year, despite having moved from the top half of one age group to the bottom half of the next.
Alek Boughey and Pete Lonsdale continue to be the in-form athletes in the senior age group, as for the fifth time in six races they filled the first two scoring positions, on this occasion finishing 67th and 81st respectively.
Bob Brimage, however, showed some signs of returning to form by finishing 95th.
