In the Merseyside Women's Cross-Country Championships, Marie Burke of Wallasey A.C. again proved herself to be among the area's top female runners by winning the individual bronze medal.
Marie was well supported by Deirdre Gibbon and Karen Jones but, with only three runners recording positions instead of the required four Wallasey missed out on the team awards.
Paula Simpson, who has produced some excellent performances in schools races, had a good run to finish 13th in the junior girls event.
In the final, Liverpool & District League fixture at Upholland, Mark McQuade showed the rapid progress he has been making by taking 10th place in the colts race. With Mark backed by Ian Tunstall in 24th place, Andrew Thompson in 27th and Andrew Chambers in 28th, the team took 4th.
In the senior rice the in-form Robin Jones again led the way in 25th place. Pete Lonsdale and Ken Gibbon again had a close race, with Pete reversing their previous result to come in four places ahead of Ken in 66th place.
There were a record 17 Wallasey finishers in the race including two making their cross-country debuts. Pete Upton, who gained an excellent 105th place and sprinter Steve Moores who struggled slightly in 184th.
The club's Christmas Handicap takes place on Sunday, December 14, beginning at 11.00 am. The race has reverted to the old (pre-1982) course, and any members wishing to take part should meet at the Cross Lane clubhouse by 10.30 a.m.
