Wallasey Athletic Club's female runners have enjoyed unprecedented success during October both individually and collectively.
The club became the new Merseyside Road Relay champions with Marie Burke, Lynne Kennedy and Siobhan Mangan having little difficulty in disposing of the opposition at Wavertree in the senior women's event, while at under-13 level, the club fielded more teams than any other finishing 5th, 8th and 10th.
The Paul Stephen Wells trophy meeting held at Warrington produced the most successful results for the club in years, especially in view of the fact that this meeting is probably the most competitive cross-country fixture before the championship.
Wallasey had the easiest winner of the day as Paula Simpson majestically strode to victory by an emphatic 23 seconds, backed by Diane Senogles and Claire Jones. The club finished in second place in the under-13 age group.
The runners-up berth was also filled by the under-11 girls, headed by Karen Simpson, who it would appear is following in her sister's footsteps, Leanne Sloan and Sharon Thompson. While Marie Burke had another superb run to finish second and help her team to fourth place along with Joanne Johnson and Emma Derwent.
