J. Johnstone, the Pembroke Harrier, became the new Liverpool & District cross-country champion when he beat is club mate and holder of the title, Norman Jones, over 10 miles at Messrs. Bibby's Sports Ground, Broadgreen.
The championships were a triumph for the Liverpool Pembroke club. They had the first man home in three classes - senior, junior and youths - won the senior and youths' team championships, and finished second in the junior. First three in the seniors' race were : 1. J Johnston (Pembroke H.). 52 mins. 59 secs.; 2, N Jones (Pembroke H.) , 54 mins. 13 secs.; 3. B Nolan (Pembroke H), 54 mins. 15 secs. Team (Senior): 1, Pembroke H. 36pts; 2. Liverpool. 83pts; 3, Wallasey H. 102pts. Junior (6 miles) 1, H. Marsh (Pembroke H.), 35mins. 39secs.. Team: 1, Wallasey H. 101pts. Youths (3 miles) 1, R. McCartney (Pembroke H.), 19mins. 2secs..
