Rapidly gaining the reputation of being his company's best all-rounder, Gunner. John Richard Cousins is a Wallasey soldier who has in the past few months boxed, run and played soccer and rugby with conspicuous success.
Gunner Cousins, who is 19, is serving with the 14 Field Regiment of the Royal Artillery in Hong Kong. He has won six cups for long-distance running and represented his company at boxing (light-weight), soccer and rugby.
He is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Cousins, of Littledale Road, Wallasey, and an old boy of Gorsedale Secondary Modern School. He is a regular soldier serving on a 21-year engagement.
His father, for many years a well-known member of Wallasey Harriers, represented the Royal Navy at boxing and in 1929 won the amateur wrestling championship of Cheshire.
