This year the Wallasey Athletic Club has a real chance of success in the local, championships, particularly in the boys and youths age group. The club should also finish well up in the Northern and English championships. However, it must be understood that success can only come from hard training, preferably as a team. It must not be forgotten that cross-country running is principally a team sport.
Plans, are now underway, for the Wallasey Schools Championships to be held at Leasowe on Saturday, November 6th. This race, run over the marshes, offers chances of competitive running to all schools, youth clubs, Scout troops, etc., who are interested in athletics.
There are two groups - boys under fifteen and youths under eighteen, and anyone who is interested is welcome to take part. Prizes in the form of medals will be presented to successful competitors and also boys who show talent will be offered a year's free membership in Wallasey Athletic Club.
Former winners of this, race are Wally Hoggorth and Ron Barlow, both of whom have already had distinguished athletic careers; Ron Barlow showing particular promise in the half-mile.
Further details and entry forms are available from Mr. R. Woolley, 8 Bradman Road, Moreton; or from the Education Offices, Town Hall, Wallasey.
This Saturday there will be a club run from Leasowe at 3 p.m. prompt. The H.Q. will be open at 2-30. Anyone interested in joining the club is asked to contact Mr. R. Woolley at the above address, or Mr. R. Hubbard, 44 Tollemache Street, Wallasey.
