With the virtual completion of the cross-country season, Wallasey A.C. members last Saturday turned to track athletics and road running.
Senior cross-country runners Brian Woolford and Kevin Mather ran in the Windermere to Kendal road race over a very hilly course of miles. Woolford succeeded in finishing 17th from a strong field of over 100 runners, while Mather ran surprisingly well to finish 12th.
Other Wallasey runners took part in an open track meeting at St. Helens, where Ron Barlow won the 1½ mile event, in 7 mins. 9 secs, from team-mate Brian Chalton (7 minutes 18 secs.) With young quarter miler John Morley winning the 660 yds. in 1 min. 31 secs., in a determined finish and Carl Gee winning the shot putt. Wallasey had quite a successful afternoon.
Today Wallasey A.C. are participating in the annual Sefton Park Road Relay (2.30 p.m.), their team of six consisting of Wright, Barlow, Woolford, Chalton, Mather and Townsend.
