THE PLACINGS
Kevin Mather ran the first leg and for quite a while was up with the leading half-a-dozen runners but during the second half of the lap the pace hotted up considerably and Mather had to be content with 14th place recording a time of 18 mins. 58 secs. Ron Barlow took the next stage and with a fine run of 18 mins. 19 secs, took Wallasey up six places to hand over to Roy Parry in 8th position, Parry was unable to gain any places but did well to hold 8th place being chased over the last mile by the Blackpool international Brian Craig. Parry's time was 19 mins. Brian Woolford set off on Wallasey's final stage and soon caught up with the three men in front of him. His next task was to try and overhaul the 4th placed team Rochdale and failed by only 7 seconds to do this - a really fine run this by Woolford who recorded the fastest Wallasey time of the day with 18 mins. 3 secs. The fastest lap was recorded by M. Freary of Bolton with 17 mins. 28 secs.
This Saturday the senior team are competing in the Blackpool Memorial Road Relay. Once again there will be a very strong field and another good race between about six clubs is anticipated, with Wallasey being amongst them.
