Tuesday's Liverpool Parks athletic championship heats provided John Morley (W.A.C.) with a second place in the senior 440 yards event, in which he recorded 53 secs. In the junior 100 yards, John Watkins did 11.0 secs, into a strong head wind for 3rd place.
First year youth Dave Lockley and Johnny Jones found their older counterparts a little too strong for them in the youths' one-mile and could only manage 4th and 6th places, in 4 mins. 46 secs, and 4-54 respectively.
The finals of the other events will be held next Tuesday evening, when some 80 athletes will be concerned with final placings.
TODAY'S W.A.C. CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
Wallasey Athletic Club's annual club championships today will be preceded at 2.15 by a club photograph, and all members are asked to be prompt.
The championships, for which medals and trophies will be awarded, cover seniors, juniors, youths and boys, and by ladies', intermediate-girls' and junior girls' events. Each competitor must compete in three events and the total number of points will decide the final placings.
A BUSY JULY
July will be a busy month for club members. Next week a large section will compete in the intertown meeting to be held at Kirkby Stadium and Wallasey hope to go one better than last year and win it.
On .July 10, the club visit Eccles for the civic handicap sports, and this is followed on the 17th by the Widnes Police sports in which the club have a youths' mile team entered in addition to senior 2-mile and medley teams. There is still time for individual entries for this meeting and forms can be obtained from the club house.
