Wallasey Athletic Club were hosts last Saturday for the first League run this year. Leo Carroll of Wirral A.C., who has just returned from America, won the senior event in 27 mins 48 secs and his team won with 58 points, having six in the first 18.
Wallasey did not finish a team in the 5-mile race which required six counters. Allan Keating was 16th in 30 mins 9 secs and Mike McNamee was 28th in 30 mins 46 secs. Doug Hanna finished 41st with a time of 32 mins 28 secs while Len Durkin was five places behind in 32 mins 39 secs and Mike Whiteside was 49th in 32 mins 59 secs.
Wallasey A.C. won the youths' three miles with 16 points, having five of the nine runners. 1st was Dave Lockley in 18 mins 27 secs, followed nine seconds behind by Johnny Jones, while Steve Walker finished sixth with a time of 20 mins 4 secs. Phil Wealthy just beat John Horobin out of 7th place at the finish but they both recorded a time of 20 mins 49 secs.
In the boys' two miles, Mel Schless won comfortably in 13 mins 34 secs. Pete Lewis was sixth in 14 mins 37 secs, Ian Wilson was ninth in 15 mins 7 secs and Mike Potter came 11th in 15 mins 32 secs. Sutton won the team event with 22 points and Wallasey A.C., which is missing Garry Little, came 2nd with 27 points.
Today the club is entering teams in the Cheshire Road Relays at Winnington Park. Two youth teams will be picked from the following: D. Lockley, J. Jones, M. Weatherilt, S. Walker, P. Barrie, P. Wealthy, J. Horobin, L. Watcham, N. Bowen and D. Adair.
Two senior teams will be chosen from B. Woolford, Barlow, B. Smith, A. Keating, M. McNamee, D. Hanna, L. Durkin, J. Morley, C. Gee and M. Teahan - Both age groups will run 4x4 miles.
