The Wallasey Athletic Club have notified all clubs affiliated to the Liverpool district of the N.C.A.A. that they are organising (as they have done in previous years) a sports meeting in conjunction with the Wallasey Gala.
Formerly, however, this meeting was open only to members of the Wallasey A.C., but it has been decided this year to hold the meeting on inter-club lines, and they are appealing for the full support of clubs in the district. I cannot do better, I think, than to quote from the circular issued by the Wallasey Club:-
All events (they say) will be decided on a scratch basis, and athletes will score points for their clubs; small souvenir cups and medals will be awarded to individual victors, and, if possible, a challenge trophy, to be held by the winning club. It may be added (the circular continues ) that as we have a duty to the spectators as well as to the athletes, we hope you will word this as an appeal to come over and help us. If your track and field sections do not permit of your entering a full team, then send as many as possible, and help us to achieve our threefold object namely:-
1. An enjoyable evening's sport for athletes and spectators.
2. The fostering of the club spirit.
3. The assistance of a worthy charitable object.
In explanation of No 3 (above) it should he added that the Wallasey Gala is promoted with the idea of benefitting the funds of the local hospitals.
It is explained in the circular that where a club is unable to enter a team the Wallasey A.C. is prepared to accept individual entries from approved athletes.
Accompanying the circular in an entry form, with complete list at events. these being as follows:- Flat races at 100 yards, 220 yards, 880 yards, one mile, and two miles; relay race for teams of four each runner to cover two laps about 600 yards); relay race for four runners each to cover half a lap; long jump and high Jump; pole vault; putting the shot: and a hurdle race of 300 yards. Entries should be forwarded to R. G. Hyde. 14. Cromer-drive, Wallasey. early as possible, but not later than Wednesday next, the 26th inst.
