In the athletics match against Sefton, the club was beaten by 29 points to 23 points, due mainly to lack of support in the sprint events, and certain field events.
Most notable performance by a club member was two firsts and a 2nd place by Ron Addis in the youth events. He took first place in the 100 yards in 11 secs., first in the discus with 114 ft. and second in the shot with 37 ft., a very commendable performance for a boy still at school.
John Sugars, also a schoolboy, was 3rd in the youth shot with 32 ft. and 3rd in the discus with 90 ft.
Carl Gee took 1st place in the senior discus with a throw of 109 ft. 4 ins., and 2nd place in the shot with a punt of 35 ft. 1 ins.
Kevin Mather ran a good half mile, remaining among the leaders for 600 yards, and then leaving everyone to win in 2 mins. 9 secs.
In the mile, John Wright ran one of his typical races, staying just behind the leaders till about 100 yards from home, and then sprinting past to win in 4 mins 39 secs. Pete White, after leading for most of the race, was beaten into 3rd place by A. Woolridge (Sefton).
This Saturday John Lynch is running in the Pembroke "20" at Huyton. All club members will wish John the best of luck in his gruelling task.
The Liverpool Parks & Gardens inter-club match takes place on June 10. The individual championships are as follows: Heats, June 17 and 24; July 1 and 8; finals July 22.
