In the Wakefield "20" held a fortnight ago, Mr. Frank Ledward finished 37th out of a field of 59 - which was a wonderful performance at an age when most people are thinking of their pension.
In the Cheshire v. Lancashire inter-county match, Carl Gee finished 4th in the shot putt with a personal best performance of 37ft. 6ins. In the mile, Ron Barlow also finished 4th in a personal best of 4 mins. 20.5 secs.
In the Parks and Gardens meeting, Kevin Mather won his heat in the one mile in 4 mins. 36 secs.; Ron Barlow won the two miles in 9 mins. 28 secs., a realty good run for a junior; and Carl Gee won the discus with a throw of 112ft. 10ins.
In the Central Park gala, Ron Barlow won his mile race in 4 mins. 28.3 secs. In the Junior 'A' mile, Tony Townsend was second in 4 mins. 45.8 secs., and Phil Townsend third in 4 mins. 47 secs. In the "B" mile John Young was second in 4 mins. 52 secs., and D. Noble seventh in 5 mins. 7 secs. In the half-mile Brian Chalton came second in 2 mins. 13.3 secs. Ray Wood finished third in his heat in the 100 yards in 10.8 secs. Carl Gee won the shot with a putt of 45ft. with the 12 lbs. shot.
At Colwyn Bay, despite breaking the meeting's best performance, Carl Gee finished second in the discus with a throw of 116 ft. - 6 ft. 4 ins. better than the meeting record.
