Johnny Green of Wirral A.C., England cross-country international last season, should retain his county title when the Cheshire cross-country championships are decided at Bromborough to-morrow.
Eight clubs, Crewe, East Cheshire, Macclesfield, Sale, Stockport, Winnington Park, Wallasey and Wirral, will be fighting for team and individual honours in the senior event over seven miles, and an interesting individual entry is Port Sunlight born Alf Tyrer, of Sutton Harriers, after a long career studded with honours, Alf is getting to the veteran stage, but is determined to qualify for the Cheshire team to compete in the Inter-Counties Championship at Aylesford, Kent next month.
The tussle tor team honours may be confined to last year's first and second, East Cheshire and Wirral. East Cheshire can call on some of their smart youngsters who won the English Junior team title last season, including Jack Price, former English youth champion and present holder of the Cheshire three-mile track title
The youths' race over three miles has cut up somewhat and Crewe, East Cheshire and Stockport are not competing. The best here may be Wallasey and Wirral, and an interesting member of the latter team is M. E. Morrell, the English Junior javelin champion.
The start and finish is at the Stork Margarine sports field at Bromborough and the Mayor of Bebington (Alderman F. Statham) will start the youths' race at 2:30 p.m., with the seniors away at 3 p.m.
