Among the 197 runners lining up in the private grounds of Windsor Castle for the annual Polytechnic Harriers Marathon race on Saturday, June 15, will be a local athlete J. W. Lynch of 7 Rostherne Avenue, Wallasey.
This race is over 26 miles, 385 yards to Chiswick Stadium, for the historic "Sporting Life" Trophy, is the most important long-distance road race in Britain. It is also the world's oldest annual marathon.
Lynch is a member of the Wallasey Athletic Club. The race will be started at 3-30 pm. by Captain Paul Bennett, VC., M.C., the Metropolitan magistrate, and the finish will be at the mid of the Kinnaird Trophy athletics meeting which is being held that afternoon at Chiswick Stadium.
