The meeting arranged between R.A.F. (West Kirby) and Wallasey A.C., did not in fact materialise, the reasons for this do not at the moment seem clear, but it seems a great pity, as this race would have provided an interesting opening to the season and helped to allay the boredom produced after spending 4-6 weeks training without any prospect of racing.
However, a meeting has been definitely arranged for to-day, with Southport and Port Sunlight athletic clubs. On paper this should provide Wallasey with a. win from the first race of the season, but paper form is notoriously inaccurate, However, I cannot see any reason for our coming unstuck unless the dreaded Asian flu' strikes any of our members down. With a senior team that includes John Wright, John Lynch and Vince Bayliss and juniors like Ron Barlow, the Townsend twins and White brothers, we may well emerge from the fray as double victors.
Next week we journey to St. Helens for the Monstre meet. This is a most friendly get-together of Lancashire & Cheshire cross-country runners.
The Club annual general meeting was held yesterday at the Roycroft Hall and I hope to give a report next week. Anyone who would like to join the club is assured of a welcome whether they intend to be active members or not, intending members are asked to contact Mr. R. F. Hubbard, 44 Tollemache St., New Brighton (tel. New Brighton 2389), who will be pleased to furnish further details.
