Wallasey Athletic Club held its annual Pentathlon competition at Woodchurch last Sunday. Club captain, Allan Cheers, won the senior men's competition with 2,662 points from five events. Bob Brimage was second, with 2,613, and Dave Lockley finished 3rd overall with 2,411 points.
Keith Sorrell won the junior competition with 2,390 points and Gwyn Griffiths was second with 1,921 points.
The Youths event was won by Dave Ashton with 2,087 points, followed by Chris Preston with 1,759 points had Dave Shipley with 1,620.
The senior women's championship was won by Margaret Ashcroft who scored 2,961 (after a 1500m in 4 mins. 56.6 secs, which produced 777 points). Margaret Caldwell was second with 1,165. Third place went to Cathy McGrath with 985 points.
Julie Halfpenny ran 200 m in 29 secs, in gaining the highest total score of the intermediate girls - 2,484 - and Sue Carter was second with 2,594. Audrey Mackey finished third.
First place was won easily in the junior girls' age group by Helen Taylor (2,409), and Gillian Forshaw gained second with 2,021. Third was Lyn Carter with 1,907. Hilary Upton finished fourth in her first year of club competition, with 1,840, and of this score 623 points were gained from an impressive high jump of 1.32 metres.
