The ladies' section of Wallasey Athletic Club took part in the Bolton road relays in Leverhulme Park on Sunday, opening their cross-country and road running sections.
The first girl to run was Lynn Carter, who seemed to be a little off her usual form. She handed over to Gill Forshaw who ran a steady race. The last of the juniors to run was Hilary Upton running her first race, in which she put up a very good performance and promises better for the future.
In the intermediate section Wallasey were extremely short of runners and Helen Taylor had to join up with competitors from Bury and Ainsdale to form a team. Helen, who ran first, ran strongly coming back in eighth place, which her team mates could not hold.
The senior race was begun by Margaret Ashcroft who came back streets ahead of the second team, in fact she had the second fastest time of the day, being only 20 secs, slower than international Jean Lochhead.
Barbara Banks ran a disappointing race though time-wise she kept the team's position, the final leg of the race was run by Janice Watts.
Meanwhile the 'B' team, Audrey Mackay, Julie Halfpenny and Sylvia Brimage. all ran greatly-improved races, finishing in sixth place.
This weekend the ladies' teams will be taking part in the first northern league, while the men's section will be travelling to Winsford for the Cheshire relay races.
