John Hawksley, of Wallasey Grammar School and Junior Captain of Wallasey Athletic Club, won the Cheshire Schools (under 17) High jump with a leap of 4ft. 10ins. at Port Sunlight last Saturday.
On the same day at White City, London, in the Inter-Counties Championships, Barney Kivlin (W.A.C. and Cheshire) had the misfortune to fall at the last hurdle in the 120 yds. hurdles, which was won by veteran Don Finlay from young Birrell by 7 yds. Matt Smith (W.A.C. and Cheshire) recorded a distance of 38ft. 10ins. in the hop, step and jump, and was placed tenth.
On Sunday, Wallasey Athletic Club travel to Northwich for an inter-club fixture of relay races and field events for seniors and juniors. The coach leaves Seacombe Ferry (Floating Roadway) only at 1 p.m. prompt.
