At Northwich last Saturday the match between Winnington Park R.C., Sale Harriers and Wallasey Athletic Club resulted in a win for the home team.
Winnington Park, who scored 53 points, with Sale second, 38 Points, and Wallasey third with 35 points. Wallasey athletes who won their events were Ted Ballard, with a long jump of 17ft. 4 ins., and Matt Smith with a high jump of 5ft. 4 ins. Smith is a promising athlete who put up a fine all-round performance, including second place in the 120 yards hurdles and third in the 100 yards sprint.
ANNUAL MEETING
The annual general meeting of Wallasey Athletic Club will be held at 7-30 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, at the Punch & Judy Café, Seaview Road. Proceedings will commence with the presentation of Cheshire County badges and medals by the club president, Mr. A. G. Nicholson, to five club members, namely, Barney Kivlin, John Abbott, Rob Jones, Matt Smith and Ted Ballard.
CROSS-COUNTRY STARTS
The cross-country season opens this Saturday with a run catering for all speeds and ages from the club's winter headquarters in Leasowe Road (50 yds. beyond the railway bridge) at 3 p.m. prompt. New members will be welcomed, and anyone interested in cross-country running is invited to turn up this Saturday and any Saturday.
