Training for track and field events continues at Leasowe Road Playing Fields, where new members, men and women, are welcome to join Wallasey Athletic Club (for details, ring Hon. Secretary, Ron Hubbard, at Birkenhead 3550).
In the immediate future attention is focussed on the Birkenhead and Wirral Sports Festival at Upton Cricket Ground on Whit Monday, where W.A.C. is fielding a two mile team, and on the Cheshire County Championships on the following Saturday at Port Sunlight, which will include many W.A.C. entries.
This summer the Liverpool & District Track & Field Events League has been revived, but will be confined to juniors (i.e. under 19). The first meeting will be at Port Sunlight on Wednesday the 31st May, when the 120 hurdles, javelin, high jump and long jump will be contested. This competition forms an excellent opportunity for keen junior athletes to obtain mid-week competition to sharpen up their performances.
Soon a schedule of working parties will be drawn up to proceed with the preparation of the new headquarters site. Hard working volunteers have made a good start to the project by dismantling the recently acquired hutting and transporting it to Wallasey as soon as was possible after its purchase. The club looks to its members to continue the job so well begun.
