The annual competition for the Brookes Award for members of Wallasey Athletic Club aged under 19, in the 220 yards, javelin and high jump events will take place at the club track next Wednesday evening. At the conclusion of the contest, the award will be made by club vice-president, Mr. W. Brookes, son of the donor.
In the Wallasey Youth Olympiad last Saturday, 13 of the 26 events were won by members of Wallasey Athletic Club. The club also took 11 second places and three thirds.
Last Saturday afternoon at Dunlop Sports, Speke, Len Platt (21 feet 3 inches) and Platunde Lawrence (20ft. 1 inch) took second and third places in the open handicap event. Platt is now in hospital for treatment, but hopes to be out in time for the club championships at the end of next month.
The inter-club competition for the Lever Trophy will take place at Port Sunlight on Saturday, August 19, a week before the final events in Wallasey Athletic Club's own championships, and W.A.C. has received an invitation to take part. From each club there will be two competitors in each track event and one in each field event; W.A.C. team will be selected shortly.
Wallasey Athletic Club 2-miles and girls' relay teams will be competing in the British Legion sports at the Liverpool Police sports ground, Fairfield Prescot Road, this afternoon.
A working party will be completing the concreting of the foundations at the building site this Saturday at 10 a.m. Would any W.A.C. members please join them and lend a hand for a couple of hours?
