To-day, the West Lancs. Cross-Country Championship will take place at Upton Road, Moreton, adjacent to Moreton S.M. School, the first race being scheduled to start at 2-30 p.m. Over 200 competitors representing 14 athletic clubs will take part, including internationals and National Champions.
The youth race over three miles promises to be the most exciting from the team point of view, as there is a wealth of talent in the youth class in the West Lancs, area. Liverpool Harriers, the holders of the "Rachael Finney" Trophy will defend their title.
The junior race will be staged over six miles, and here again Liverpool Harriers will defend their title as holders of the "Express & Courier Cup." The individual contest should result in a fine race between Johnston of Wallasey, Price of Liverpool Pembroke, and Marsden of Liverpool Harriers who finished in that order in the District Championships.
The senior race over nine miles should be the best race of the day, but the absolute superiority of Sutton Harriers, National Champions 1947, 1949 and 1950, makes the team race result a foregone conclusion. Their's is a grand team with four runners all capable of being the first man home.
A grand afternoon's sport will be concluded by the presentation of awards in the Moreton S.M. School, Upton Road, by the Mayor of Wallasey (Alderman J. H. Wensley) .
