Miss Penny Price - daughter of the Wallasey Ferries' General Manager - on Wednesday presented a silver trophy to the Cheshire County Athletic Association.
The trophy was originally presented to Miss Price by Penny's of Dumbarton, the builders of the new Wallasey ferry boat ''Royal Iris II." The trophy is a statuette of a girl runner and is mounted on a silver base on a wooden plinth and the firm made the presentation to Miss Price to mark her winning of the Cheshire schoolgirls' sprint championship last summer.
Mr. H. J. Vann, Chief Constable of Birkenhead and President of the Cheshire County A.A., said after receiving the trophy "This is an indication of Miss Price's sportsmanship and her wish to see the sport succeed.
The trophy will be awarded annually to the winner women's (over 17) 100 metres sprint, and will be first competed for on June 2nd this year during the Cheshire County Athletic Championships at Port Sunlight.
The presentation, which took place in the Mayor's parlour, was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress (Ald, and Mrs. J. Wensley), Commander L. D. Price (Ferries' general manager) and Mrs. Price, Mr. W. H. Guest (chairman of the County A.A.), Mr. W. C. Wild (secretary of the County A.A.) and Mr. R. Hubbard (secretary of the Wallasey Athletic Club and executive committee member of the County A.A. ).
