Last Saturday's Consolation Road Handicap over a course of 3¼ miles had only a dozen or so entrants, but in spite of this a good race was held and some good times recorded.
J. Winrow ran strongly to finish first, followed closely by R. Scammell, who always seems to do well in handicap events. A. Dickinson was a good third. The fastest time of the day was made by R. Johnston who covered the distance in 17 mins. 3 secs, a good time, especially as half the distance was run against a strong head wind.
From the results of the race the following team was selected to run in the Sefton Park Marathon Relay:- A. Dinsdale, J. Arkless, A. J. Clark, E. C. Foster. A. Dickinson, D. W. Dickinson, J. McFarland, R. Johnston. Reserves: P. Milner, C. R. Hewson. These members and any supporters are asked to meet at the Pier Head at 1-30. The race is due to start at 2-30.
