The postponed West Lancashire novice team race was held last Saturday at Makerfield over a five miles course, 140 runners, comprising 17 teams, facing the starter.
The club have had more than their share of ill-luck in this race for several past seasons and thus their success in securing the 3rd team award was all the more gratifying to the numerous supporters optimistic enough again to make the journey.
With a total of 83 points Wallasey were third to Warrington H. (22) and Sefton H. (48).
J. Edwards ran a well judged race to finish 4th in the individual placings, incidentally being the first home also of the large Merseyside contingent.
J. Cunningham was 18th, while H. Jones, making but his third appearance of the season, was 30th with C. Parry 31st. K. Baird (38th) and T. Sawyer (39th) completed Wallasey's six entries.
WALLASEY "A" BEAT LIVERPOOL UNIVERSITY.
Over the home course, meanwhile, Wallasey "A" were successful in beating Liverpool University by a margin of 11 points. G. O. Jones, the 'Varsity runner, covered the miles course in 36 mins. 20 secs. Results as follows:-
Wallasey A.C. "A":- 2, W. Davy; 3, N. Marples; 4, W. R. Richardson; 6, H. Lightfoot; 7, H. Jackson. Total, 22 points.
Liverpool University A.C.:- 1, G. O. Jones; 5, H. Cooke; 8, K. Shawham; 9, F. Williams; 10, L. Hopkins. Total, 33 points.
