A party of runners from Liverpool University visited Wallasey Athletic Club last Saturday and ran with the club over a 6½ miles course.
Edwards and Lightfoot endeavoured to show the pack of 27 runners the way, but when the leaders reached Bidston footbridge, after the marshes, the pack was so strung out that the markers must have been out of sight of most of the runners. Incidentally Wallasey marshes to-day are not a shadow of what they were three years ago. The first section, far-famed as one of nature's most gruelling tests for runners, is now an undulating stretch of grassland, thanks to the golfers. Although "no racing" was the order of the day, Watson, Grisdale and Parry maintained a good pace throughout and finished in that order. The visitors put up a valiant show but found the course rather tiring after their home course which is somewhat shorter and practically all road. Wallasey A.C. are indebted to a number of " outsiders " for kindly pointing out the route to some of the runners through Moreton, as at this point there must have been a big distance between the leaders and those behind collecting the stragglers.
To-day Pembroke A.C., the Liverpool & District Champions, visit Wallasey at Leasowe-road and with their much improved team Wallasey should be able to make the champions run hard for victory.
The hon. sec., Wallasey Athletic Club, is Mr. R. G. Hyde, 14 Cromer-drive, Wallasey, to whom prospective athletes should apply.
