The postponement of the Liverpool & District Cross-Country Union's five miles road handicap last Saturday came as a great disappointment to the several members who have been putting in some intensive training recently with a view to finishing among the prizes in this popular event.
Considering the heavy programme of all clubs concerned, it is now extremely doubtful whether the handicap will be held, at any rate before Christmas.
The run arranged from Leasowe-road headquarters was well supported and took place over last season's seven miles championship course.
Two packs were formed and both were soon in difficulties on the marshes. The flooded state of this part of the course reduced pace to a mere jog-trot ; in fact a rumour is current that several member's were compelled to swim.
From Moreton there was a distinct speeding up, F. K. Ledward, B. Morgan and K. Baird being very prominent in this respect and eventually finishing a considerable distance ahead of the main body.
A club run has been arranged for today from the Festival Pavilion headquarters. All members eligible to compete in the West Lancashire Novice Championship should attend, as the first trial run for this event will be held and information given re mid-week training.
The hon. secretary, Mr. R. G. Hyde 14 Cromer-drive, or the hon. assistant secretary, Mr. H. C. Binns, 46 Princesway, will supply information re the club's activities.
