Despite the heavy rain there was a good turn-out for the home run last Saturday.
Several packs were formed, the first under T. B. Calverley leaving headquarters at 3-15 p.m., indulged in a moderate-paced run over the Novice Championship course of the previous week, about six miles in length. A smaller pack including B. Morgan, L. Bell and K. Baird had a fast training run over the short Christmas handicap course, the route taken being Leasowe-road, Leasowe Common, embankment and back to headquarters via the golf links.
At 3-40 p.m. the main pack under R. Young set out to run full seven miles course, but at Upton their numbers had dwindled to two, as the majority, disliking the weather, preferred to cut the distance down to about five miles. Near the Fender the remaining pair, R. Young and J. Davies, were overhauled by W. R. Richardson and F. G. Ambrose, who had been the last to leave headquarters. The four then kept together until Leasowe-road was reached, when in fast run-in W. R. Richardson finished a short distance ahead with F. G. Ambrose 2nd.
