There was a fine turn-out of nearly 20 runners for the Christmas Handicap held over a 4½ miles course last Saturday and some fast times were returned.
The handicappers kept the limit down to 4¼ minutes start with the inevitable result that the backmarkers had no difficulty in running through the field to collect most of the prizes.
B. Morgan off 20 seconds took the first prize with F. K. Ledward second off the same mark, while R. Young from 1 min. 30 secs, annexed third place.
W. A. Geddes and G. Crompton off 2 mins. and 20 secs, respectively were strongly fancied, but neither produced his best form, W. A. Geddes finishing 10th and G. Crompton 14th.
Placings of the first 12 were as follows
