With the approach of the Liverpool & District Cross-Country Championships, Wallasey A.C. members have commenced serious training.
Last Saturday a combined pack of the senior and junior teams had a fast run to the beginning of the Upton footpath, where the trail diverged, the juniors covering the usual seven miles course while the seniors bearing away to the left sought to add an extra mile or so to the recognised route.
By an easy gradient through the woods the senior pack reached Bidston Hill, ran along the crest and down via the Thermopylae Pass to Upton; thence bearing right over the fields and crossing the Fender the old course was re-joined in the vicinity of Moreton. To this point the pack had kept well together, but over the last two miles W. R. Richardson and L. Bell drew steadily away from the others and finished nearly a quarter of a mile ahead.
The junior team had finished their shorter run some time before; T. B. Calveley leading the way in, with B. Morgan 2nd and K. Baird 3rd. F. G. Ambrose, making a welcome re-appearance, had apparently completely recovered from the injury which has kept him out of recent inter-club engagements and, together with K. Bell, returned a good time for the short course.
To-day the club hold a handicap over the seven miles course. Arrive in time for a 3-30 p.m. start.
The hon. secretary, Mr. R. G. Hyde. 14 Cromer-drive, will be pleased to supply information re the club's activities to any prospective member.
