The postponement of the home fixture with Liverpool Harriers originally fixed for last Saturday enabled the Club to hold a training run on handicap lines over the short five miles course.
The 20 harriers present were divided into four packs. The youths receiving four minutes start were first away followed at 1 minute intervals by the remainder of the club, with N. Marples, K. Baird and W. R. Richardson all on the scratch mark.
The limit men made good use of their start and led to within a mile of the finish.
Eventually H. Jones (3 mins.), making his first appearance of the season gave way to L. Hughes (1 min.) and N. Marples (scr.). In a good finish the latter finished first with L. Hughes 2nd, W. R. Richardson 3rd, K. Baird 4th and H. Jones 5th.
Of the youths H. Yeoman and H. Jackson were most prominent and with careful training should do well.
Departing from the usual route across the marshes, resulted in a speeding up of the race by keeping to the Bidston footpath, and there was general agreement that this route should be adhered to for training purposes.
To-day, in addition to the club run from headquarters, six members, F. G. Ambrose, K. Baird, L. Hughes, R. G. Hyde, N. Marples and W. R. Richardson, will represent the club as individual competitors in the Liverpool & District 5-miles cross-country handicap to be held from the Village Hall, West Derby, headquarters of Sefton A.C., at 3-30 p.m.
Information re the Club's activities may be obtained from the hon. sec., Mr. R. G. Hyde, 14, Cromer-drive.
