Wallasey's sixteen years old runner J. K. S. Glover, who seems destined for Olympic honours, won a further triumph last Saturday, when he took part in the second of the Amateur Athletic Association's Junior Championships, at Stamford Bridge, London, organised by the London Athletic Club.
In the hundred yards Glover, the Northern Counties' Junior champion, defeated F. A. R. Hunter (London A.C.) public school champion, by a foot in 10 2-5th secs. The pair met again in the 220 yards race, when Hunter was returned the winner, with Glover second eight yards in the rear. The winner ran on the outside, and as the best heat times were accomplished on the outside, it was thought the line was incorrect, and the track was measured, and found to be 11 yards short.
It was officially announced later that as the track was 11 yards short the race would be declared void. The medals were withheld, and the matter will be considered by the committee of the London AC., the promoters.
A great deal of the credit for the splendid form displayed by young Glover is due to Mr. "Nibs" Hayes, the well-known local trainer and masseur, who has trained and coached him during the past year.
