On Saturday last the Wallasey club entertained their old rivals, Wirral Harriers, at the club headquarters, Leasowe-road.
A paper trail was laid over a seven mile course and the contest took the form of a run through over the circular route. The race was keenly contested from start to finish, the first six men home from each club to count.
As was expected, the first man home was Sammy Dodd (Wirral), who is recognised as one of the finest cross-country men in the country. Wallasey placed the second man home in Norman Neal, who finished in front of two Wirral men, with Band and Richardson fifth and sixth respectively for Wallasey. Wirral then placed the next dozen men and ran out comfortable winners, Wallasey, however, having the distinction of having three men home in the first six.
To-day (Christmas Eve) is the annual Christmas Handicap from the club headquarters, Leasowe-road, every runner will receive a prize, and generous handicaps will be given to novices or "old crocks.'' In addition, tea will be served as usual by mine host, the jovial Jack Finn, and his minions, so that there is no excuse for non-attendance.
