The Club Championship was decided on Saturday from Harrison Park Headquarters. The trail was laid by A. G. Nicholson and the brothers Lowes over the Wallasey marshes, Bidston, Upton, Moreton, Leasowe and home, a distance of about eight miles.
Eleven runners faced the starter, and right away Peter Scott set a warm pace, Bob Young keeping within call. These two kept up a ding-dong battle for the entire distance, Scott eventually finishing a punishing race nine seconds in front of Young, Macmaster being third some distance behind.
All three belong to the pre-war brigade, and when the need arises can still find some running. The winner holds the "Peers" Cup for twelve months.
The sealed handicap was won by W. Simmonds, W. Paley and J. Ewers being second and third respectively.
The actual times for the first six are as follows
P. Scott - 44mins. 45secs. P. Young - 44, 54. A. Macmaster - 46, 36. W. Paley - 46, 53. W. Simmonds - 48, 15. J. Ewers - 50, 5.
